Where Do You Stand Regarding the Wallpapering Trend?

December 16, 2020

When you hear the word wallpaper are you instantly transported to earlier decades such as the 1970s or 1980s? Do you envision flowers, swirls, or other patterns that were so common in those years?

You are not alone. Wallpaper, however, is a trend that seems to be making a comeback, especially as an accent wall with paint on the opposing walls. Let’s take a moment to look at where you might stand on the wallpaper trends we are seeing with interior decorating as of late. wallpaper

Wallpaper: Growing in Popularity

According to Homes & Gardens online, “Wallpaper is a key trend for 2020, and the insatiable appetite from consumers doesn’t look like it’s abating any time soon.”

The article goes on to explain that, while wallpaper was once out-of-fashion, it is now seen as flexible and modern. For instance, many designs include contemporary geometric and tropical patterns, or animal motifs and architectural designs.

The design technology and printing processes have also advanced in recent years which allows for this trend to improve in style and adherence to surfaces. Gone are the days of just printing on paper, you can now embellish corks, grass-cloths and silks with pretty much any design. In fact, many wallpaper options include removable options that allow for changes in room appearance when the owner tires of the design or just wants to change things up. wallpaper designs

New Design Trends

If you are still picturing your parent’s floral design wallpaper, get that out of your head. There are hundreds, if not thousands of new designs meant to mix and match with your existing color scheme and color palette.

Some of the more popular wallpaper trends include wallpapering one wall in a room with a color from that scheme as the paint color for the rest of the room. Patterns such as bold floral greenery, geometric shapes, animals, abstract shapes, and whimsical florals are the most trendy designs right now. Another trend designers are seeing is textured wallpaper such as grasses and faux suedes.
