This may not be the summer we all had envisioned for ourselves. In fact, this may be the summer of staying home, or at least staying more local due to the global pandemic. If you want to make the most of the warmer months, it may be time to get your deck and patio area in tip-top shape to entertain close friends and family. Here are a few tips for restoring your deck or patio area back to the splendor it once had. 

Stress on Your Deck

You don’t have to be a carpenter or contractor to know that the New England climate can be rough on outdoor structures including your deck or brick pavers. The snow, sleet, hail, wind, and salty air can really do some damage to wood decking as well as brick pavers. Every year homeowners should take steps to evaluate the condition of their deck as well as take steps to protect the surfaces from rot, decay, mold, mildew, and warping. Pavers should be regrouted and cleaned regularly as well. 

Evaluate First 

One of the first things homeowners should do when getting a deck or patio ready for the season is to do a thorough inspection of the structure. Check each board for rot, warping, and splintering. Mark those that will need repairs. Check rails, steps, and nails that could be sticking up. Each element should be repaired and evaluated for the level of refurbishing that will need to be completed. Don’t forget to inspect the underside of the deck as well as the foundation supports for rotting. 

Power Washing
