New Home? Paint Before you Move In.
September 27, 2017
Congratulations, you found the home of your dreams! You must be elated… and a bit overwhelmed. In fact, even before the papers are signed and moving boxes have been filled, you probably have a million items on your “wish list” of things to tackle in your new home. From updating the electrical wiring, to fixing that stubborn leak in the bathroom, the list may seem endless. While some items may be big ticket items to worry about, others may just be little annoyances. Prioritizing this list into when they should be completed – before or after move in – can help make things seem less overwhelming.
One item that is probably on your list is interior painting, right? Here are a few reasons why this item should not be put on the back burner and should be done prior to moving in, if at all possible.
- Painting an empty room is so much easier than a room full of furniture. No one likes hauling furniture and finding a safe, clean space to settle it in while a room is being painted. Remember, it’s not just furniture, but draperies, hardware, and all those little things that take time to remove and store properly.
- Painting a new home is a quick way to make everything look new! No more smudges on the walls, chipping paint, or paint that is peeling. A professional paint job can make your house look great before you start arranging furniture and putting your personal touch on the interior.
- Painting can get rid of a previous owner’s unique color choices. If the prior owners had a passion for bold colors/patterns or something that is not quite your taste, painting the interior can erase that from view and hopefully your memory.
- Painting prior to moving in allows you to be free of any paint smells on a daily basis. Even low odor paints can be off-putting to some homeowners. Painting prior to move in day can solve that.
