Benjamin Moore Grays

Color Spotlight – Gray

April 5, 2023

Decades ago if someone had painted one of the main rooms in their home a shade of gray, guests would have thought it gloomy or too somber to use for decor. However, at this moment in design history, gray is a hot color that is desired in a variety of different rooms and a choice of elegant and classic hues.

Gray’s popularity has come and gone over the past few years but it still remains a top choice for many homeowners since it is a neutral hue that is compatible with practically every other color on the color wheel. It can be light and airy or darker and more serious depending upon the shade and sheen you choose.

Let’s look at a few popular grays in our favorite quality paint Benjamin Moore

Since Jerry Enos is committed to using the best paint out on the market, we use Benjamin Moore. Not only is it high-quality, reliable paint, but the color choices are amazing. Gray, in particular, is a great choice for a home that is looking for something stylish and classic and will coordinate with everything.

Steel Wool

For those homeowners seeking a darker gray for kitchen cabinets, a small bathroom, or a two-toned dining room, this hue is deeper than most of the other grays we will be highlighting but elegant nonetheless.

Benjamin Moore describes Steel Wool Gray as “A deep, stately gray that leans slightly cool.” Picture this shade as a tuxedo color for your bottom cabinets while your top cabinets use a lighter hue of gray or white with a tint of gray! Beautiful.

Thunder Gray

Thunder Gray by Benjamin Moore is more in the greige family as it has undertones of neutrals such as beige and tan. It is light and airy and has a classic and stylish look to it. Benjamin Moore color experts describe it as “An easy-to-use neutral that offers an ideal mix of warm and cool.”

Gray Cloud

More on the lighter end of the grays, Gray Cloud is a perfect choice for a smaller room or for one that needs a neutral palette for multiple colors in the decor.

Benjamin Moore experts describe Gray Cloud as “A light, floaty gray brightened with a hint of blue.” Notice the undertone of blue in the gray? If you have blue furnishings, bedding, or decor items, they will pick up on this hint of blue and make your space come together perfectly.

According to Color and Design Expert Andrea Magno, gray is a perfect balance of light and dark for a space. “Given the wide range of undertones in gray paint colors, choosing a gray can be daunting. Cement Gray 2112-60, Gray Owl OC-52, and Coventry Gray HC-169 are three of our favorite recommendations.”
