3 Often Forgotten Tools You Need for Painting

Painting can be a wonderful way to transform any space. It can brighten even the darkest of rooms, open up a space, and even lift the mood of a room. But to do this, you need the right tools. Painting takes more than a brush and a roller to get the job done well and looking professional. 

As a professional painting company, we invest in high quality brushes, rollers, and scaffolding to get to those hard-to-reach places. Homeowners often think that the job takes only a few tools, but that could not be further from the truth. 

While we here at Jerry Enos Painting have many tools at our disposal for painting both the interior and exterior of home in our region, there are some tools we find to be most important for making a project come out professional looking. 

Buckets and Paint Drills 

If you are painting a large area, it’s a smart idea to mix your several gallons of paint into one larger 5 gallon bucket. This ensures that your paint is constant throughout the surface. Many homeowners have found out the hard way that the three gallons they thought were identically mixed, are just slightly differently thus making one area of a room look different than another. That’s why it’s a good idea to mix your paint with a paint drill in a larger 5 gallon bucket. That way all the walls or surfaces will have the same color. 

Step Stools and Scaffolding 

New England has some of the most interesting styles of homes. Some come with impossibly high ceilings while others have built-in shelves or nooks and crannies that make painting a challenge. Having a wide variety of step stools and scaffolding that can be arranged in different ways is imperative to reach hard to get to spots whether it is a ceiling trim or an open staircase. 

As a side note, it is critical that you hire a painter that is trained, licensed, and insured just in case the worst happens while painting tough to reach surfaces. 

Floor and Furnishing Covers 

Often it doesn’t dawn on do-it-yourselfers who want to paint a room or surface that they need to protect the items and floors in the immediate vicinity until after they have spilled some paint. Floor coverings and furniture protectors are critical during any paint project. 

We suggest floor and furnishing coverings that are not slippery. Many homeowners have slipped on plastic covers that are used to protect carpeting or hardwood floors while painting or stepping down off a ladder. Cloth or canvas coverings secured to the corners can help with protection and safety.
