Fall 2023: Where and When to Peep Leaves

There’s nothing like driving along, taking in the gorgeous colors of the New England fall foliage. Maybe with a bag of apple cider doughnuts?
But the question of when to hop in the car isn’t as simple as waiting until mid-October. Scientists have been studying the weather’s effects on fall foliage for 35 years, and every new year’s weather patterns affect when the colors will reach their peak.
Autumn 2023 is bringing with it some impressively vibrant displays of red, orange, and gold, but warmer temperatures are delaying the coloration. While the AccuWeather.com 2013 Fall Forecast is predicting near-normal temperatures and precipitation for the mid-Atlantic region, there may be a lower concentration of the bright, colorful leaves we all love.
Still, there’s no place like New England in the autumn, and we say it’s worth working leaf peeping into your fall fun schedule.

Massachusetts: (Inland) Until Oct. 21; (Coastal) Until Oct. 28
Rhode Island: Until Oct. 28
New Hampshire: (Coastal) Until Oct. 21
New York: Until Oct. 28
Maine: (Inland) Until Oct. 17; (Coastal) Until Oct. 21
Vermont: (Southern) Until Oct. 17
