Winter Blues? How Paint Can Help
February 21, 2018
The dark days of winter have closed in upon us, and boy is it tempting to curl up with some Netflix and a favorite beverage on the couch until the first signs of spring arrive! The lack of daylight, the colder temperatures, and the blanket of snow can make even the cheeriest of us want to hibernate. Thankfully there are some ways painting can help you fight the darkness of a typical New England winter. Here are a few ideas to help you fight those winter blues.
Since surroundings can play a huge role in our moods, consider these paint projects that may help lift your spirits.
- Accent Walls – If painting an entire room is not in the cards for your schedule or budget, consider a quick pick-me-up with an accent wall in one of your main living areas. Choose a color that you love, whether it is a rosey red, a snappy blue, or a cheery yellow. This accent color can also be used on items in the room such as: throw pillows, scatter rugs, or keepsakes.
- Entryway – If your mudroom or entryway is looking dingy with all the salt, mud, and boot tracks due to the snow, then this might be an area you could choose to refresh. Paint the cubbies and walls, or change out the color of baskets in your mudroom to give it a quick boost. A fresh coat of paint in this area can be a daily energizer to combat the darkness of winter.
- Bedrooms – You’ve probably heard the old adage, “If you can’t beat ’em, join ‘em.” Well, if winter has you wanting to hibernate, maybe go with it. Choose a warm, cozy color for your bedroom that makes you feel surrounded by warmth and happiness. Make your bedroom into your comfort zone by choosing a warm color and bedding to match.
Winter can seem neverending for some people. Painting an area of your home that you spend time in can help you feel a little less trapped by the grip that winter has on all of us in the northeast.
