Problems Caused By Rushing Your Paint Project
January 23, 2024
We all love a fresh paint project in how it can transform a space, but most people are not crazy about what a chore painting is. The prep work, the clearing of the room, the waiting for paint to dry between coats and the overall cleanup can be a royal pain to most homeowners.
It is human nature to want to get a job done as quickly as possible. However, in the world of interior and exterior painting, this rushing mentality could make for a less-than-pleasing final product and outcome.
Unfortunately, the goal of “getting the project done” often leads many homeowners to rush the project. This could have disastrous consequences. Let’s discuss.
Poor Prep & Bad Adhesion
We’ve talked in the past about the importance of prepping a space before painting but it is worth a quick reminder that without prepping the space, you may run into a few problems.
Walls that are not wiped down may have accumulated grease, dirt and dust that could cause issues in the way in which the paint adheres to the surface. A quick wipe-down can remove spiderwebs and years of dust, markings, and blemishes.
Rushing through the process of setting the room up correctly can also lead to spills and disastrous errors as you begin the painting process. For instance, furniture that is not properly removed could be splattered or knocked over during the project.
Injuries Due to Rushing
Many professional painters have a finely tuned process of setting up scaffolding and ladders when painting an especially high area. Amateurs and homeowners, in particular, tend to not follow the safety protocols when setting up the space to paint in hopes of shaving a few minutes off the total time it takes.
This rushing of setting up ladders and other equipment properly could be disastrous in terms of physical injury. Ladders and scaffolding that are not properly secured could become a fall risk for painters. It is not worth the risk of falling or seriously injuring yourself to make the process go faster.
Blemishes Due to Rushing
Paint takes time to dry and adhere to any surface, whether it is indoors or out. By rushing the drying process, there are risks of blemishes showing up in the weeks and months after the project is completed.
No one wants to see peeling, cracked or bubbling paint after they went to all the effort to paint a space. Allow for adequate time for each coat to dry to avoid these unsightly blemishes.
