Making a Master Bedroom Masterpiece

October 31, 2017

A master bedroom is meant to be a place for rest, relaxation, and refuge from our busy and sometimes stressful lives. Whether it is work, the kids, or merely all the demands of everyday life, a master bedroom should be your own personal oasis, a place for escape from it all. This means that when it comes time to design, decorate, and paint your master, you should have an integral part in deciding exactly when creates that mood for you and your partner. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Mood – While most people aim to create a master that will allow them to relax, the color palette can really shape exactly the mood you want. For example, if warm colors such as reds, greens, and browns signal relaxation for you, then start looking in that range of the color wheel. If cooler colors such as greys, blues, and yellows signal relaxation for you, start your color search there. Many people choose calming neutrals such as beige, ivory, or taupe as a backdrop for their décor. Only you can decide on the color that suits your “oasis” mood, as the bedroom is the most personal space in your home. While some people enjoy bold, bright colors to greet them in their space, others prefer more muted tones.

Textures – Bedrooms are a place where you want all of your senses to be at rest and where you feel comfortable. Consider using varying textures for pillows, curtains, bed coverings and, of course, your wall paint!

Décor – While the color palette can set the mood and the textures can lull you into a sense of peace, the décor is what will help you “go to your happy place.” Be sure to decorate your master with items that remind you of all the things that you love, such as: wedding photos, keepsakes from vacations and your travels and, of course, your favorite books, candles, and furniture pieces.  This means keep all work, computers, and reminders of the stressors of your life out of the area.
