Make Painting Resolutions for the New Year
December 19, 2018
It is New Year’s Resolution time! Rather than make the same old promises to lose those last five pounds, or skip your favorite dessert, we thought it would be fun to create a uniquely Jerry Enos Painting list dedicated to painting and decorating this year. Here are just a few of the resolutions that you might want to make if you enjoy the clean, fresh look of paint and love occasionally changing up the design of your rooms.
Ignore the ‘Experts’ and Pinterest Pins
Instead of spending hours on Pinterest and design idea websites, be original. While there is nothing wrong with gaining inspiration from online sources, just be sure that you are being true to yourself and find what you love. Don’t choose a color palette or room design merely because it is “in” right now. Decide what you like, what your room has to offer, and go from there.
Choose Colors that Make you Happy
There are no steadfast rules about colors when it comes to your home. You do not need to choose neutrals, whites, or soft tones. Choose a color palette that matches your personality and the mood you want to set in each room. If you love blue, then go with it!
Don’t Skimp
When you decide to paint the interior of your home, be sure to choose high quality paint that will roll on smoothly and last for a while. Quality paint can mean the difference between a paint project looking professional and looking like a toddler did the work. The end product should look even and well rolled instead of lines, globs of paint, or fading patches. The same rule goes for your paint brushes and rollers. Choose well made and trusted brands that will give your paint project the best look possible.
Prep, Prep, Prep
If you decide to paint in the new year, be sure not to skip the most important step – preparation. Wash down the walls, repair holes and uneven patches, remove light covers, cover the floors, and remove as much furniture as possible before beginning your project.
Eliminate Clutter
Most homeowners admit that clutter can get the best of them, be it an excess of books, papers, keepsakes, or everyday items. Designers suggest that to make a room look more peaceful, the clutter should be eliminated. Tidy up the shelves, side tables, and mudroom so that when you enter your home it does not look or feel chaotic. Make the center point the design and color of the room rather than the pile of shoes next to the front door.
