Fireplace Refresh
October 4, 2017
Who doesn’t love the warmth and inviting feeling of a fireplace, especially as the nights get cooler and winter gets closer. There really is nothing better than curling up by a roaring fire with a favorite beverage, a good book, and close family members. What a great way to make lasting memories. Unfortunately some of us have fireplaces that may not look as idyllic as we would like. If your hearth is dark, dated, or is in desperate need of a facelift, then a little bit of paint can take your fireplace from boring to brilliant!
For many of us the fireplace has had the same appearance since we bought our homes. Homeowners tend to be wary of changing the hearthstone. That may mean that you have a surround that is stuck in the 1980s, or fake brick that could use some work, or maybe even brass fixtures that have seen better days. If you are looking for a quick fix, paint may just do the trick.
Here are some ideas for a fireplace refresh
- Complementary Colors – If you are getting tired of looking at the brick or faux brick that surrounds your fireplace, you may want to choose a color that will complement the color scheme that is already in play in that room. For example, if your walls are a mossy green you may want to choose a deeper green that will coordinate with the walls while at the same time bring out the details and features of the chimney area.
- Dramatic Contrast – On the other end of the spectrum is the design idea of choosing a color that will give some “pop” or dramatic contrast to the colors already used in the room, such as a red, orange, blue, or a contrasting color that will draw the eye right to the hearth area and make it a focal point.
- Special Techniques – For others, choosing complementary or contrasting colors may not be a good choice. If you are seeking a way to just change the tone of the brick or surround, you may want to look into specialized paint techniques or patterns to change the mood of the surface.
